Marc Jacob’s Fall Winter 2014 Ready-To-Wear Collection

“It’s very soft, very neutral, and very fresh. We wanted this collection to be layered but very linear and light, so that it wasn’t what you would expect of layering. We wanted to explore luxurious techniques in a different way and wanted everything to be as beautiful inside as it was out.” – Marc Jacobs

The Marc Jacobs Fall Winter 2014 collection was shown under the shadows of 400 puffy clouds to a spoken word mantra performed by Jessica Lange. “We wanted to allow the light to shine through and to amp up the sound,” explained Jacobs. “We wanted mood and shadow and beautiful ombré clouds—it was meant to be clinical, repetitive and serene.”

Under the clouds the clothes came out in a calming parade of soft beiges and greys. Beautiful lightweight fabrics were paired with luxurious knits in silhouettes that were modern and easy with curved seams, which gave reference to the 1970s. Oversized sweaters and tunics were paired with stovepipe leggings, double-faced cashmere coats and dresses with side slits and deep v necklines. This chic uniform was followed by fur bombers in pastels, sequins and beautiful organza tiered dresses that appeared lighter than air. Looks were paired with thigh high fur boots, 60’s inspired quilted booties, python and ostrich sneakers and super luxe shoulder bags in suede and ostrich, with polished nickel details in the same rich shades.

The mood was paired down and airy with acertain steeliness underneath the surface. “We looked at women like Meryl Streep and Jessica Lange,” Jacobs said. “Women we admire and respect and who have strength without any agressivity.”

A study in luxurious details that simply appear effortless—the Fall ‘14 Collection reminds us that what is understated can still make a statement.

Fall Winter 2014 Accessories

“I think there is something about luxury – it’s not something people need, but it’s what they want. It really pulls at their heart.” – Marc Jacobs

The Marc Jacobs Fall 2014 Handbag line marks a return to classic luxury: clean lines, an elegant palette, luxurious materials and rich details.

This season Marc focused on two sophisticated shapes: the Incognito and the Trouble. Inspired by strong, confident women like Faye Dunaway and Jessica Lange, the collection is both effortless and refined.

Both styles are interpretations of conventional shapes reimagined with bold details Jacobs is known for.

The Incognito comes in both grainy and polished calf leather and is luxurious in a way that still makes sense for everyday wear. As an interpretation of the classic doctor’s bag—the Incognito’s bold silhouette is paired with graceful restraint and perfect constructed details.

The Trouble—the star of the runway show—has a modern envelope shape constructed in muted shades of elegant suede and finished with a tough but beautiful polished faceted chain in nickel.

Both the Incognito and the Trouble are impressive in their simplicity, tenacity and polish. According to Jacobs, they come from a powerful place but were designed in a fresh—non-aggressive way.
